Here is a link to the English translation of the Pope's controversial speech: http://www.vatican.va/holy_father/benedict_xvi/speeches/2006/september/documents/hf_ben-xvi_spe_20060912_university-regensburg_en.html

With love in Christ.

Ok here I am as a Muslim, I believe what the pope said was a little hurtful in a way for the Muslim community as a whole. That was why many muslim countries protested against his remarks. I think the pope should just respect any religion same as we Muslims respect the Pope's religion by not saying anything bad abt him. Again I remind that true, terrorism everywhere is caused by Muslims but not every Muslim is pro terrorism!

This Pope is not dumb. He is one of the sharpest minds in the Catholic Church and in the world.
I personally think he might have thought that it is time that somebody speaks up. Clearly, because of his position, he could not do this in a direct, confronting way and therefore he chose the antique quote.
Obviously the message hit home and he got a raise out of all Islam, which served to illustrate his point like he himself could never have done.
Now, let's hope that his words inspire others to speak their minds instead of kowtowing to a group of fanatic islamists, who have hijacked their own religion.

Don't usually agree with the Pope on anything but if he stood up for the free world and spoke out against those murdering muslims,I am with him. And for all the bigmouths who are bashing, were you in NYC on 9/11? Did you see what they did?

The Pope said the wrong thing but that does not give the Muslims the right to burn churches and kill nuns. That is hypocritical and insane

Yes, I'm so freakin sick of religion and the damage it causes to the world. Now these Muslims are bombing places. The Pope is an old foggy that needs to just die already. In fact, the whole religion needs to die.

No he was stating a fact about "the religion of PEACE". He shouldn't have aplogized at all. Do the Muslims apologize for remarks made about Christians and Jews. NO!

I'm not a member of the Roman church and don't think that the Roman church does much good in this world...having said that, what the pope said was accurate and it only shows the cowardice of him and the Roman church when he and they apologized for speaking the truth.

Right. If he hadn't called them evil, they wouldn't have proved him right.

Never thought I'd agree with the Pope. Better call the boss to make sure Hell hasn't frozen over.

Very dumb. Now every non-catholic, not just muslims will wonder what he really thinks about their beliefs.

Politically, it was a very stupid move, fraught with more resentment between faiths.
