Technically speaking, you need to continue to sustain your body throughout the day, rather than just trying to feed it and give it energy in one fell swoop. It doesn't work, trust me. I've tried.

It also really depends on what you plan on doing for the rest of the day. Are you going to be exercising constantly, or just sitting at school or a desk job? There's also your body type to consider. If you have a higher metabolism, you're going to need more food throughout the day, and if your metabolism is slow, you won't need as much.

A good breakfast doesn't include just one thing. You should balance it, so try and have something from every food group (grains, fruit, milk, and peanut butter on toast). If you're not a big breakfast person but still want the energy, try a breakfast smoothie or some oatmeal instead.

Finally, try and have breakfast every day. If you have a busy day or you're in a hurry, a piece of toast and some fruit may be all you have time for, but make sure you eat a good lunch to make up for it.

first of all--eat portions--a portion is the size of "your" fist or palm of your hand. no counting required! have a portion of plain oatmeal (you can sweeten with splenda and cinnamon) cooked with skim milk, also eat a small piece of fruit. if you want more protein eat 2 veggie sausage patties or links. another great breakfast is a 3 egg (whites) omelette made with cottage cheese, low fat diced ham and throw in some veggies like peppers, mushrooms and onions and have a piece of whole grain toast or whole grain english muffin with it. sugary types of breakfasts (pancakes with syrup, cereal) will only leave you hungry in an hour once your sugar high depletes.
