Did you try flipping that little switch the other direction on the back behind the reel?

If you have tried the anti-reverse switch (usually located on the rear section or under the reel depending on the model and manufacturer) the problem is usually the anti-reverse dog or stop. Sometimes the spring that controls the action breaks or gets stretched out of shape. When the switch is in one position the dog prevents the gear from allowing the reelto reverse directions. This helps the angler set the hook and fight the fish. The other position lets the fisherman let out line without changing the drag settings. I have also found too much grease around the stop. If you have never worked on fishing reels you may want to have a professional take a look. It can be worth the price to keep a favorite reel in service.

if flipping the switch makes no difference. then you have an internal problem. one quick fix would be to take off the reel handle and drench the reel with some high quaility reel oil. sometimes dirt causes the little latch to stick inside the reel. if this does not work you would need to take the reel to a repair shop.

If you are right handed you are supposed to turn the reel handle with your left hand. Reel hangs so it is on the underside of your rod. When reeling in, reel away from you, not toward. Guess is reel is okay and you are the problem.

There should be a little lever or slide on the reel, which will lock it so that it won't reverse.
