Sometimes things don't fit in the space given here...?

How do I (easily please) create a site for people to click on if they want to see elaborations? (I'm new at this) Much appreciated.

I see some some questions and/or answers that go on for days. It seems like I only get about four sentences."You have blah blah blah characters to work with" I don't understand. Are others just referring to someone else's website or what? I'm not being stupid, I'm just new at this.
