Try walking briskly on a treadmill for around 20-25 mins, Also have it on a incline, this is a great way to burn body fat. Also when using weights. Try the free weights (Not Machines!). Doing sit ups simply loosens the abb wall. Pilates is also good for strenghting the abb's and lower back.

Perhaps the weight machine could be sold to pay for the new things because you can do everything with the free weights and dip tower/bench that can be done with the weight machine. Like you wrote though, you use everything. I prefer the social atmosphere of a gym and also I don't have to pay for any repairs or have the equipment at home. Personal choice I suppose. If you can afford it,

To lose weight, fat melts off of your body as a whole, not in sections. You can choose to tone or strengthen certain muscle groups which may visually affect the area.
Using the treadmill is a great way to lose weight, and I see alot of improvement in my stomach muscles when I run. If you aren't in shape or can't run long then I suggest doing interval training on the treadmill and increase your endurance so one day you will be able to run. Walk for about 5 minutes, run for 1-2, then walk for five minutes and run for a few more minutes. Repeat this cycle and try to stay on the treadmill for 30 minutes each time. Eventually you can start walking for less minutes and running for more and more. I also suggest taking an eveining walk for about 45 minutes (or early in the morning.. or break it up into sections.. whatever)
I think riding the stationary bikes and elliptical machines are nice alternatives sometimes to get your heart rate up and its not so strenuous as running

It will take much dedication but it can be done depending on your drive to succeed, your diet, your body fat percentage and genetics. I love Cybex machines best. Also stick to lower weights esp. if you do machines that exercise the waist. If you do too much on the weights you will find your waist actually getting thicker. I hear Pilates is wonderful for a long-lean look.

As above, no amount of exercise will affect a specific body part, its all or nothing. The best kind of exercise for you is swiming and aquarobic type classes. Three times a week, an hour at a time.

there are no exercises that will make you lose weight around your stomach. you either lose weight all over, or nowhere.
