Last year i bought a canon powershot A520 and recently it has been acting up. When I move the switch to mode that lets me take it pictures, it switches itself back to the viewing mode so I can only view the pictures and not take them. It takes me a long time to snap one picture because of this problem and its realllyy annoying. The camera is out of warranty, so what can i do? Does anyone know what could be wrong and how much it would cost to fix? Thanks

About the only things you can do with this camera are to check that the batteries and memory chip are seated properly, and that nothing is obstructing the lens. Otherwise, it will cost you money to get it fixed. Bummer.

The good news is that cameras are advancing rapidly and the latest in Canon's PowerShot line (the A710) is much better than the A520. But knowing that won't make your A520 work any better. (I have an A700 and it's been pretty good so far.)

First I would try changing the batteries.
Many things still work but improperly with bad batteries.
Don't use those cheap Costco batteries, use the good ones like Duracel or Rayovac.

I think it is not worth fixing it.
It is unfortunate that the camera is acting up so soon. Did you drop it or get it wet? Out of warranty you're gonna end up paying more than the camera is worth.

your camera seem to have mind of its own, and likes to annoy you. and to fix it does not require effort. get a bucket full of water, and hang your camera on top with a rubber band. leave it for as long it require for the rubber band to snap and take it out after the splash. the next move is, to blame yourself why you bought this thing which is made from "CHINA"
