I had very curly hair (not nappy, as some call it) and i got tired of it so i went to the hairdresser to cut it and she went VERY VERY short! it was sticking up all over so i relaxed it to try to get it to stay down. now it is too straight and lifeless. I was thinking about getting a perm to put back the curls. my hair is pretty short still - rests on my neck, above the shoulders. is it safe to perm my hair now? it's been about a month or more since i cut and relaxed it. if it is unsafe, what are my other options to get waves again in my hair? i plan on going to the salon this week, but i want to have an idea of my options before i go there and make the final decisions. is there anyone else out there who is clueless as to what to do to get her hair to look it's best!!!? please advise!

What is a wetset? I have naturally curly hair. It's not african american/ afro. each strand is medium thickness and i have a lot of it, so altogether i have very thick hair! i don't wear braids.

You should wait a while. The chemicals can be so harsh that you hair breaks off. Do you wear braids? You could to grow it out a little more. I'm not sure of your hair texture, but I only relax once or twice a year, and I can hold braids for a little while. I've never heard of relaxing and perming...you could also get a wet set.

Well I wouldn't recommend it because they are 2 different chemicals....If you want a perm now you will have to cut the relaxer out.......or grow it out and get wet sets until your hair is long enough to cut and you won't end up bald......I would also recommend somethin they used to call and s curl it look beautiful on women and the curls are soft curls so it will be easy to style.

Wait at the very least three months before putting more chemicals in your hair. also try roller setting your hair to give it a curly look. And to make the most out of your straight hair use dove's shampoos and conditioners and your heir will be soft with lot's of volume.

From what I understand, you can't put a chemical process on top of another; but it may depend on the strength of your hair. My mom has supper thick, nappy hair and she's had relaxers that didn't take and was able to back in and have a 2nd relaxer done without much damage. I, on the other hand, have fine hair and it can't take too much processing (i.e. I have a relaxer, but can't get color).

Hi, yes it's safe. But only if you put the right wave in it. ISO pronounced-- long i and the word so--and stands for (Innovative Styling Options) has waves that are thyo-glycolic acid free,(the damaging element in all other perms). You would probably have the Option # 2 put in your hair. They also have Semi-permanent wave options. Check out their web site and a salon that sells ISO products and services. =o) Cosmetologist

i was in the same situation. my hair was once too very curly. once i recieved a perm my hair was lifeless. i tried to get a perm to put the curls back in my hair, but instead of that it made my hair even straighter. when gettting a perm you should wait at least four weeks to get another perm. to get your hair wavey i would suggest a wave nuveuo, its kinda like a perm put it encourage curls

A wet set is after shampooing and conditioning roll up your hair with rollers while wet also can use a setting lotion like Lotta Body when rolling up your hair. This is what I do every two weeks. You will have body and shine and crisp, bouncy curls.

okay first dont get a perm unless you want to be bold, you can overprocess your hair.nothing can make it curly other than to let the perm wear off,it takes about 6 months to do so,to put life in it use wrapping lotion and/or mossue and let it dry,but your hair has to be wet.

i wouldnt perm it. if its short just let it grow out. the relaxer wont last forever even though its supposed to. if you do perm it, there is the chance that the hair will break which will make it even shorter

You need to wait six (6) weeks before relaxing or you could potentially fry your hair.

Please check out a website I highly endorse www.motowngirl.com it's for natural hair but I hope you find some inspiring information and you stay chemical free.
