I'm going on my first cruise next month to the Bahamas. What do guys usually wear on the formal nights, the cruise info. says a tux or dark suit. Do guys really wear those things? Or is my boyfriend going to pack that stuff for nothing?

Yes, men do wear a dark suit & tie or a tux. You can usually rent them from the cruiseline if he doesn't own one. I have seen men on formal night range from wearing just a typical suit and tie combo to wearing a tux with tales. They usually won't let men in to the dining room without at least a sport jacket on formal night.

My husband always wears his best black suit, with a dress shirt and silk tie. On the cruises I have been on you definately see more people dressed that way then in tuxes at first seating. More men wear tuxes to second seating at dinner.

Formal night is really fun! Don't be intimidated!

Most guys do wear dark suits or tuxes. I always wear my tux on formal night (about the only chance I get to wear it). Ladies wear evening dresses. It is a great way to look good and get some great pictures. Tell your BF to definately wear it.

dressing up is part of the fun, go with it. most men wear dark suits but there are a good amount of tuxes too. My husband just takes his dark brown or black suit and a tie (this is a must, with no tie he may not look right), we go as a family and even my 2 boys ages 10 and 12 wear dark suits and ties. I however have a elegant blue/green velvet and chiffon evening gown.

I just booked my first cruise too! We don't go until June though. I'm a big time researcher when it comes to huge new things like this. I found a website that has been able to answer almost all of my questions. It's called cruisemates.com & it's run by people who like to cruise.

Anyway, in answer to your question...from what I've read yes the formal nights are *formal* ... I'm a little intimidated myself! But I've also read that you don't have to attend formal nights. There are other options for dinners on those nights.

Yes, they really wear them. If he doesn't bring it, then forget about going to formal night because you'll feel like an idiot. Definately take at least a suit if not rent a tux, and you need that gorgeous black dress.

the 1st night of a cruise isn't a suitable night! Too many all human beings continues to be waiting for bags, and the ask your self salon would not have time to do hair for the ladies who want their hair "merely so" for formal photographs. The final night of a cruise isn't many times a suitable night, the two, simply by fact all human beings is packing to pass domicile and the photographers would not be waiting to take, technique, and sell photographs. (Formal nights are super for the two the ask your self salon and photographers.) So -- it is going to exceedingly much actually be interior the midst of the cruise, probably on a "sea day".

i went on carnival celebration in july. most men wear suits and ties or tuxes. my nephew (age 24) wore a polo shirt and khaki pants. they didn't say anything to him. in my opinion, he was under dressed. if your boyfriend doesn't want to feel under dressed, then i suggest a suit and tie. happy sailing!!!
