In the medical device field (my particular company being intraocular lenses, contact lens solution and exzemer lasers for Lasik surgery), there are hundreds of jobs in 'science' mostly centered around the research and development department.

You probably need to cut your teeth as a lab tech, getting familiar with the products and procedures involved. As you become more familiar, if you're ambitious and know your stuff, you can get into project development, project management, etc. Basically you are shepherding a new product through from development to conception.
