My girlfriend and I were talking about getting engaged but we do not intend to live with each other immediately. We were thinking about getting engaged first and not live together yet. Then when we get married we would find a place and live together. Is that odd or uncommon? Thoughts and opinions please. Thank you.

Thats how it use to be in the "old days". So it is not weird or anything. I think the reason most engaged couples live together today is so they can see what they are getting themselves into. Like testing the waters first to see if they can live together.

Another reason is money. It is much more economical for people to share the bills to save money.

Are you kidding? It's sad that our society now considers living together before marriage the "norm" and you're worried that you're not doing that. I commend you both for not living together first. Obviously find a place right before you get married and move in then, but while you're just engaged, keep it like it is.

It is really the right decision. I am engaged and my fiance and I are not living together. I think it makes it alot easier to plan the wedding (the bride may have her moments and need space to cool off) and it will make getting married more special

I know many couples who regret moving in too quickly

This is actually the way its suppose to be, great planning!!! Couples nowadays do things all wrong and don't leave anything special like living with each other for once they are married, I happen to be a victim of that idea. It's best what you are planning for and don't let others tell you you are wong...have a wonderful day sweetie

That's the ONLY way it used to be back in the day (engaged, not living together)...a lot of couples do it now, but I don't think it's odd to not to.....go for it!

No. That is VERY common.

Don't change plans based on others. You do what is right for you two. Don't be pressured in doing anything, one way or the other.

Life together will be a long row to hoe. Take it slow.

Best wishes!

In these days, it is uncommon. But, you are doing the RIGHT thing. That is what is important. Congratulations.
