Of course, you can even buy the little clips to attach the corners of the comforter to the inside corners of the duvet cover. I bought them at Bed, Bath, and Beyond. They keep the comforter in place inside the duvet cover so you don't always have to fix it.

Yes, why would you not be able to, you just put the comforter in the cover. I have 2 twin down duvets on the bed, so we each have our own and not have to worry about someone getting too much and the other not enough as the night goes on, and in 1 spare bedroom I have another reg that i have also put ona duvet cover I had made with material my friend brought back from Ghana 2yrs ago.

A down comforter is a duvet, so of course you can use a duvet cover on it.
Duvet is the old French word for 'down' -- that's down as in feathers, not as in a direction.

Of course you can. To keep it from moving around, sew ties around the duvet and also sew ties on the inside of comforter. Make sure your ties line up with each other and then tie them together. no more shifting of the comforter. Now you can untie it and put the cover in the wash any time you want.
