There are many hostels in Beijing. A great spot to start is http://www.hostelbeijing.com
you can read reviews and book hostels.
I recomend the Leo Hostel, or the Backpackers or red lantren
do not recommend the temple of heaven hostel
Most hostels will be able to help you get a train ticket, as well, at the Beijing Main Train station, there is a window for english speakers.

Beijing hostelsare cheap, I stayed there at a pretty good place for 5 dollars anight. Try Twizi, they have a really good Beijing page with alot of photos of hostels there. Popular hostels there are the Leo and ZEN, also YingYang.

We stayed at the Drum Tower Youth Hostel. It's new and a cute place, great location. The staff speak English and are very helpful. You can email them at drumtowerutels@hotmail.com.
I would recommend a room w bath included.
