Keep the proper distance behind the vehicle in front of you and stay at the recommended speed. Slow down in worsened conditions like snow and rain.

These are the two top reasons for accidents: Following too close. Driving to fast for conditions. You are also most likely to have an accident within a mile from your home. This is because as you get closer to home you tend to relax your senses.

Keep your eyes and attention in the direction the vehicle is moving. Keep the radio OFF and obey all
the rules of the road. Turn signals have a purpose,
so please use them. Above all, be courteous when driving. Trying to be the first to arrive anywhere
is not rewarded. Remember: The pedal on the right
makes the car move and the pedal on the right makes
the car stop.

Seriously, put the key in the ignition and take 5 minutes before turning and meditate and pray for safety of yourself and everyone else on the roads. Ask for wisdom and protection. Put the safety of all vehicles you drive in Gods hands. Ask God to keep you from temptation. Pray for the proper maintenance and operation of the car. Ask God to take you places in the vehicle that will be safe and a good life from here on. Thank God for the opportunity to drive. Tell God you are ready to recieve your blessings. Ask God to bring patience and tolerance of yourself and of others for you. Pray to be vigilant and concetrated on the driving and to not get over confident. Ask God to help you avoid multitasking while the car is moving. Set the CD's and Radio only when the car is stopped. Avoid clutter in the car. Always wear shoes to drive. Never drive to a place where you will be drinking. And never drink in a place where you have a car outside unless it's home.
Even if you don't believe in God, pray anyway. It's a way to command every cell in your body to cooperate with higher thinking.

Go to driving classes if you already haven't.

In low traffic areas or back roads practice, practice, practice.

I am in sales and when our teens got their licenses they had to drive me through the summer to my calls. Usually one to two hundred miles a day. By the end of summer they were great and safe drivers and very comfortable on the road.

Remember be safe, do not take a load of people in your car until you get a lot of experience. They will distract you.

Drive cautiously and be safe.

Driving is a privilege, not a right granted by god or the constitution. Be courteous, be aware. And above all else be safe. Because if you cause injury to me or anyone in my family by a reckless stupid act showing off to your friends or just being a moron, I will hunt you down. But pay close attention to the first 2 sentences and you should be just fine.

Take lessons from a good defensive driving school (not just some yahoo who thinks he can teach driving).

Use your signals!!!

Learn proper lane-etiquette (left lane for passing, then move back to the right when you're done)!
