We have had this truck for almost a year now. Ever sense we got it, we have had problems with it. Just about every week we have had to replace something on it. Some parts over and over again. For example, the battery, alternator, and voltage regulator, and headlights. Now the tail light fuse blew out. We replaced it. It lasted 3 days, now every time we replace the fuse, it blows again.
What could the problem be, or what can we do to fix it?

You have a shorted wire in your taillight harness, if you have a trailer wire connector that's usually where it is !!!!!!!!!

I had an 86 Toyota Van a few years ago, and it was having a real problem with the electrical system. I probably spent 6 months trying to hunt it down with no luck. I finally took it to an Auto Electric shop, and for $180, the mechanic fixed the problem. Turned out it was a fusible link off the battery -- something I had never heard of before. It didn't even look like a fuse -- just a special wire about 5 inches long that is meant to melt at certain temperatures to prevent problems to other systems. Very Frustrating.
Good luck on this one -- I recommend an taking it to a mechanic shop that specializes in Auto Electrical systems.

You would probably have to replace the entire wiring harness in order to eliminate the root of the problem. After 25 years I imagine that the wiring is starting to deteriorate and some wires are touching each other when they shouldn't or possibly shorting out alltogether.

Several good answers, but all are conjecture!
I would suggest that you call your local Import Parts store
and ask for their longest tenured counterperson and then
you ask that person who the BEST Toyota repair shop is in
town and take it to them to get it fixed.
Option number two would be to get rid of it and get something
a little newer, although I would recommend staying with
Toyota or Nissan products.

It sound like it has an electrical problem.

Remember its 24 years old. If fuses and lights are burning out quickly, electrical seems logical.

Never seen anyone buy a car that old and NOT have problems.
Did you think that just because it's a Toyota that it would run fine until 2254? WAKE UP!

First off, you have a ground somewhere in your wiring system. Second off, buy a newer truck. Sounds like you have already spent more money on it than you paid for it.

I have a 1980 toyota pick-up. You have a short somewhere in the elec. system. Have a mech. check for it.

Unfortunately, you probably have to trace the wiring and find the short. No fun. Good luck.
