My best friend (a girl) for no real reason decided to paint my nails purple and pink (I'm a guy) yesterday. Why the hell? Then again, I'm not complaining, I got to hold her hand. Also we are kind of goth so she's getting me black polish tomorow, lol.

I think it stems from the fact that girls like to reveal a guy's femininity, to make sure that they aren't getting a hollow bargin who is just going to brag about how good he is all the time. Painting nails is juts one of the ways of doing this.
From a historical point of view, it may stem from times such as the Vikings when married men and women would share make-up before they went into battle to show their bond between each other.

Ok the real reason is because it's a way to flirt with the guy. First of all she get to touch your hands. Second you two are close when she does it and it's fun to see if a guy will actually let you do it.
