It would be redundant if you have an HD tuner in your TV and a DirecTV HD Receiver since the receiver has an off air HDTV tuner built in.

Unless I missed the memo, I thought all DirecTV non-HD receivers can only receive DirecTV satellite signals. So, unless you're subscribed to local channels, you need a tuner in your TV or hook up your VCR to tune your off-air local stations' signals.
