If I had a family member or friend who had a disease, I would do a paper on that disease so that I could learn everything possible about it in order to help them through it. Another option would be to write a paper on schizophrenia, a fascinating yet terrible disease.

I don't have a straight answer, but with so many diseases, why not do something that is interesting to you personally. You will be much more motivated to do a better job if you do a disease that intrigues you.

I have always thought that depression is a widely misunderstood disease. I think people have many misconceptions and overgeneralize the consequences of having depression. I think it would be great to have someone spread facts about depression and mental problems maybe also including schizophrenia and bi-polar disorder.

Schleroderma (SP?...pronounced skler-o-der-ma) would be very interesting. The people "turn to stone", meaning their organs get hard eventually leading to death because they can't even eat anymore. I had a relative die a slow death from this disease, it is very rare.
