Well first you need to understand that this man is using you. He might have feelings for you, but first and foremost, he is using you.
So you need to put your foot down and tell him to go. I can see you have already accepted the fact that after this, there is a chance that you two might not remain friends. That is good because now you can move on from here. Depending on what state you live in, how long he has stayed with you and how well he knows his rights, you may actually have to get him evicted if push comes to shove...
But I would start by telling him that by a certain date he has to be gone and you are dead serious about this. As the day approaches, keep reminding him. Don't even mention that you want to remain friends because he will definitely look at that as a sign of weakenss on your part.
If that doesn't work, then call the police to have him removed from your house. Make sure to let them know that he knew what date he was supposed to move out by. If that doesn't work, you need to evict him.

I dont believe it is possible to dump a fellow and still be Friends with him. Maybe if the relationship fizzled out than you could end up being Friends but that doesn't seem to be the case in this situation.
You will just have to kick him out asap as the most important thing now is to look after yourself and your family. If you end up being Friends than great but I dont believe there's anyway you could force the situation, you just have to let it play out.

Maybe a suttle hint of the description of a man is one who is responsible and doesn't mooch off other people especially his girl friend. It looks like it could get ugly any way so you might as well drop the bomb on him and tell him to hit the road and if he wont then I am sure your local law enforcement pals would love to assist him with his move

This situation sound like it is bound to get ugly no matter what. If he can't understand that he needs to be responsible and you have a child to take of the you don't need him at all.

Tell him it is not working out for you & you don't want you child to suffer the fallout, as your child is your first priority. He should be able to take that without too much arguement - unless he is a selfish loser. Hope it all works out!

They say that tigers can't change their stripes, I don't think your boy friend can change his ways either. You will have to hurt his feelings and kick him out, if you don't it will just hurt you in the end.

Repeat the following. If he doesn't like it's that's too bad. Obviously he doesn't value your relationship.
