I have been trying to eat a good combonation of protein and complex carbs every three hours. For the most part is works well, but what do you do on those days that you eat thirty minutes later you eat again..but lo and behold your still freaking starving! You know you've had enough calories..and your eating junk and emply calories but you can't get your mind off food and you feel physically hungry (light headed..empty pit stomach)

I had a lot of struggles with this when I first started my eating plan. I had to really focus on the reason for the hunger.

If you know you have had enough food, and you are choosing filling foods - then the hunger is literally in your mind.

I got a cheap notebook and have been writing in it to uncover the roots of emotional eating in my own behavior. For me, it breaks down to a few things:
1. I eat to help my morale. If I'm having a bad day, eating something that has "mouth satisfaction" improves my mood.

2. I eat when I am trying to distract myself. When something is bothering me, I sometimes focus on food instead of dealing with the real issue.

For those 2 things (yours could be different reasons) I had to come up with other things that improve my morale or distract me. This is a short term fix to replace food as a "self soother". Ultimately I have to sit down and uncover what is causing the bad mood, or needing distraction. Once I cope with that, the other things start to fall into place.

I also really focused on the phrase, "Food is not medicine"

And tried to wrap my brain around the idea that eating, is a short term fix. My mind is trying to be good to me... but it is really sabotage. Eating only "fixes" things for a few moments. Real success from losing the weight will be much more satisfying.

I had to finally come to a deep spot and realize, I hate failing more than I hate "missing" a snack. Once I got that, and I realized that self sabotage is going to cause me to fail... I got much better about hunger all the time.

So for me, it is about uncovering what is really bothering me, and remebering that snacking will hurt me in the long run - and I want to take care of myself.

My ideas? Try to do 200 minutes of cardio a week. Remember fat does not turn into muscle, so you need to lose your fat while putting on muscle. Work hard, but don't over 60 minutes at a time. Do planks and other abs exercises on alternate days.

On training days, do 5-10 minutes of cardio to warm up, then do your weight training. Do 30 to 60 minutes more of cardio, then go home.

The best time to eat is just after your workout within an hour when your metabolism is raging. For your muscles, incorporate some isolated soy protein or whey protein. Whey is more potent but the soy tastes better!

Don't look at your scale as the be all and end all, but get a measuring tape to check your progress, and that will show more tangible results.

Read magazines like Shape, Womens Fitness, Fitness, etc to get tips and to stay motivated.

Good luck and stick at it. This plan has lost me 20 lbs in 12 weeks so far, just go for it!

Make sure you drink lots of water. Sometimes thirst can be mistaken for hunger. 2-3 litres of water a day should make it so you know whether you are hungry or thirsty. And some days you might need more food than others to be satisfied. Just make healthy choices (grab some low fat yogurt or some veggies). But on the other hand, maybe you are stressed out on those days and you think you are hungry but you are really stressed or feeling emotions. In that case take your mind off food by exercising, talking with a friend, surfing the net etc.

On days like that I try to eat a salad with a tall glass of water... that usually helps. Or you can alsways have a protein shake. Counting calories is fine... but as long as you make sure to eat clean, that's what is more important.

Drink plenty of water and see if you can take your mind of the food. This happens to me also. If you eat your favorite meal then your food craving subsides. your meal should consists of protein, whole grains, vegetables and some fat. Low fat popcorn is a good snack since you eat it for so long it satisfies you.
