Okay, first of all, there's nothing you can do that won't cost you anything. Second of all, you don't need to bomb your house, or purchase gimmick flea powders and shampoos, either. It's much more cost, time and work than is necessary.

Go see your vet and purchase some K-9 Advantix and Feline Advantage. This is a wonderful product that, when used properly, can deflea your pets and your home.

The dosage goes by weight, so weigh your animals first. One tube is one application, so express the whole tube on your pets. (Four spots down the neck to mid-back on a dog, and just behind the neck on a cat. Don't apply it where they can turn around and lick it.)

If you're seeing fleas, you will need to reapply the product every three weeks until they're gone (usually two doses will do it) and then once monthly as a preventative. It will kill all adult fleas and larvae. The larvae feeds off of the pet dander as it falls off your pets, but there are going to be some fleas that are in the pupae stage right now, and they don't eat. They are in a cocoon until it's time to hatch, so unfortunately, there's no way to get these buggers until they hatch.

So basically, just go get some Advantage/Advantix for all of your animals, at least two applications for each. Apply one now and one in three weeks, and see what happens. Don't waste your money on bombs when you don't have to, and definitely don't waste your money on store-bought medications. They don't have the medication in it that kills fleas, most of them only stops reproduction, and we have had cases where cats have been poisoned by store-bought products. Definitely no flea collars, either! It's a total gimmick, and the animals hate them!

BE SAFE AND SMART! Good luck!

Just vacuum as much as possible. The fleas get into the carpet and lay eggs as well as on the pets. The only way to get rid of fleas is to buy flea shampoo and carpet stuff. Give the animals flea baths like 3 or 4 times a week and vacuum like 2 or 3 times a day. If you go to Walmart, the flea shampoo is $4.00 a bottle. (Not too expensive.)

When you give the pets baths, let the flea shampoo soak for a good 10 minutes. I have hardwood floors in my house and I still can't get rid of my dogs fleas!! They can also get them outside. Hopefully you live somewhere where you get a cold winter, that will help, too.

Old trick... in a shallow pan (like a pie plate) put about a half an inch of water and a few drops of dish soap. I don't know why but this will attract the fleas. Can also put a cut up flea collar in your vacc bag.
I find that the cheap flea products do not work and can make your animals sick. I have tried a lot and found that the best product is ADAMS Flea and Tick spray. You can find it on-line or in the pet stores (Pet Smart) A little more expensive but well worth the money!! I think they sell a sample that is only a few dollars.

well i don't know any thing you can do to kill the fleas without not having to buy anything. there is this powder i think its actually cheap about $3 dollars (at Wal-Mart) you put it in your carpet and then leave it on for about 30 mins and then you vacum, you may want to mop the kitchen or floors with clorox, treat your pets with flea and tick shampoo they really work (about $2 dollars at wal-mart too) you don't have to get the expensive ones, they all work as long as you know how to use them ( you wet your dog's cat's coat and then you pour the shampoo on your hand you lather it up put it on the dog/cat coats and then leave it on for about 5 mins a flea comb works great, while you bathe them) dont forget to wash the tub after you take them a bath.) Remember to treat all of them because one of them might have it today and then the next day another might have it tomorrow and so on.
Well i hope it works.

It is almost impossible to eliminate fleas organically unless you use poisons. I suggest buying a bomb (get it from home depot or even drug store). Make sure it also works for fleas. Stay away from the house for a day. However, with your dog and cat, I suspect you also have fleas outside where they will pick up and bring in. I hate to be in your situation. Once you get rid of the fleas in the house, your pets may have to stay outside.

You can buy a powder, it's primarily boric acid, that you sprinkle on your carpets and sofa etc. brush it in, then vacuum it up. It's completely harmless and it dehydrates the fleas and their eggs. It lasts for a year. It is available at most pet stores. It really works. I have 5 cats and a dog and no fleas!!!

some things you can do around the house for fleas:
garlic in the food.
brewers yeast in food for itching
take murphies oil soap - 1oz per 1/2gal of water. bathe the dog and let him stand for 5 minutes. rinse (breaks down the outside of flea and it dies) this is very mild for the dogs and can be repeated often. also makes the coat shine
powdered limestone (like you would put in the garden). sprinkle in the yard. you may be able to sprinkle in the house but vaccume shortly after and take the bag out of vaccume and away from your house or burn it.
cedar shavings in the bed and in the flower beds.
chrysanthemums (the flower) help repel and it is getting that time of year that they are for sale. buy a few and put them around in the house. great for fall and great to repel the fleas.
good luck

There is no way to get rid of them without spending a little money. You have to put treatment on the animals. Read the directions to re-apply to kill the ones that hatch from the eggs. They make a powder to put on you carpet. I do this in the evening then vacuum the next morning. DISPOSE of the contents!!! You will also have to repeat this since there will be eggs that hatch. Prevention on your animals is the key.

Shampoo your carpet with bleach in the water, not enough to bleach the carpet, a cup of bleach per two and a half gallons of water. This will kill the fleas and eggs, not to mention all the other germs.
