A call center or BPO Business Process Outsourcing is a centralized office used for the purpose of receiving and transmitting a large volume of requests by telephone.

A call centre is operated by a company to administer incoming product support or information inquiries from consumers. Outgoing calls for telemarketing, clientele, and debt collection are also made. In addition to a call centre, collective handling of letters, faxes, and e-mails at one location is known as a contact centre.

The business has boomed to the extent that many people are now running BPO’s or Call Centre. The Indian BPO industry remains on a growth path, emerging as one of the key investment markets in the country.

Business Process Outsourcing (BPO)is the essence of call centres.
Large Organizations in the West (US, Canada & Europe) "outsource" some of their people intensive repetitive processes to countries that offer qualified human resources at competitive hourly rates.
A typical call centre could be a "Voice" based BPO. Customer Processes involving calling large numbers of customers(Out bound Voice services) such as telemarketing, attending customer complaints (Inbound Voice services) such as helpline etc are handled by such call centres.
A non-voice call centre could be handling repetitive transactions such as insurance claims etc.
Call centres are both a boon and a bane.
Boon because it boosts the local economy. The employment rate has increased thanks to BPO.
Bane because of the decadent culture some of the BPO associates demonstrate.

what yous forgetting is 2 things
1 Cheap labour..
2 obedient and loyal staff..
Your question ..what is call centre.
it's a centre where all calls are received regarding the company you are enquiring about...
i think they are fantastic these people are so polite and helpful unbelievable..they are there to serve you ..
unlike our call centres..or people who answer phones they are so rude so self centred..so patronising ..
instead of serving you the customer ..they want you to serve them ..
That is the reason why over 300,000. jobs gone to India
I wish all the call centres go abroad lol
