Apparently religions are NOT all about peace. Sad, isn't it?

This is the subject area for discussion about religion - so, calling it a "religious page" somewhat misses the mark.
As to why Islam is the target for so much anger - while Westerners more or less seem to have accepted that there is a war against them by a large group within Islam, nobody really understands why. From the Western perception, there is a Islam-led mad-dog "Kill Kill" mentality against the non-Muslim part of the world but there has not been one coherent statement as to why.

accepting others is what most religions teach, but in same holy text they are intollerant of non believers
tollerance is needed but not via religion unless you remove "hate" and the standards for 'righteousness' being the lack of free will and abject submission against people's will
peace is not the Utopia they speak of by killing all political opposition
usually if you don't peaceably agree, the sword follows as you can't be convinced to follow non sensical claims of bigotry and intollerance

I think the overly religious and overly anti-religious, have the most fear that somehow they could be wrong. I think you should be spiritual rather than religious. To be spiritual, you should recognize the good and the evil in this world and try to be on the side of the good. Both good and evil exist in the church, the mosque, synagogue, temple and shrine. We know this because people go there.

Look back at history. What were most of the wars fought for? Religion is the correct answer. Where's the peace in that?
What did they do to non-believers? Torture is the correct answer.
Where's the peace in that?
If you don't believe, you are going to hell, yeah that's peaceful.

Atheists spend a lot of their time thinking about GOD! Maybe more than we Christians do! When we speak of faith, passions flow, and people tend to get mean. I bet almost everyone here is “nice” in real life.

Do you know,..? I am a Christian, and I don't EVEN think of other religions.
My goal is to keep ME in the straight and narrow path, for Jesus' sake. I try to be the person MY God wants me to be.
If you don't believe in MY God, then, I wish you would, but I can't change ideas, or people.
Whatever religion they choose is FINE with me. I'm NOT going to bash it.

I have to say i find it disappointing to see other atheists insulting theists but the thing i find most ironic is christian hurling insults and condonming other people, surely that isn't in the christian doctrine?

Remember that Christ said, "I come not to bring peace, but the sword." God is seperating the chaff from the wheat! It is a necessary thing.

It's because religious beliefs are irrational and therefore insupportable. When people find that they cannot defend their irrational beliefs, and realise that those beliefs are built on quicksand, they become angry and defensive. No-one who was secure and confident in their beliefs would need to feel that way.
