My worst experience with a dentist was when I was about 9 or 10 years old and my dad took me to the dentist to get a tooth filled. Because my dad was so poor and couldn't afford the novacaine, the darn dentist went ahead and filled my tooth without deadening it all the while telling me to shut up because it was all in my mind that it was hurting.
I have been afraid of dentist every since and I am 50 years old now. It is the worse thing that ever happened to me when I was growing up.
I never forgave my dad for that. I even offered the stupid dentist the five dollars that I had in my purse and he just kept saying shut up!
After it was over when we were leaving the office, my dad smacked me for embarrassing him there.

I was in the military at the time. They would line us up and inspect our mouths. I had the honor of have to be sent to sick call every week for teeth work. The dentists in boot camp don't care a lot about pain management. They would come in and shoot your gums up with Novocaine and leave the room for five minutes. They would return and start working away. If you winced, or tried to tell them it hurt, they would yell at you or tell you they were almost done and keep working. There is no sensation like the feeling of a drill grinding away at an undeadened nerve, or an extraction where you feel everything.
I did get severely reprimanded by a PHS dentist who came in to do a root canal on me. He had me hold onto his little finger and instructed me to squeeze it if I felt ANY pain. About two minutes into the procedure it started to hurt. A few more minutes later I flinched really hard. He stopped and saw a tear coming out of my eye and asked me if I could feel it. I answered in the affirmative. He chewed me out really good and walked out of the room and was yelling at the dental techs in the next room and the other dentists. A tech came it and shot me up with more Novocaine and the dentist returned a few minutes later and told me, in no uncertain terms, I was to either let him know if it hurt, or he would have me Court Marshalled for disobeying a direct order.

When I was a kid. The dentist threated to drill my mouth open with the drill if I didnt open up. Then he buzzed the drill at me. Nothing is pleasant at a dentist but I think deep cleanings are the worst. Because it is called a cleaning, you are given nothing for the pain and the cleaning goes on and on and hurts like h

Dentist had a dog that came into the room while I was getting a crown and pooped on the floor. The receptionist was called and she came in and cleaned it up.
I just closed my eyes and tried to think tropical thoughts, but it was hard with the smell.

i got my wisdom teeth taken out, and it turned out i was allergic to the eugenol they gave me to numb the back of my throat, well it made my tongue feel like it had needes in it! i couldn't eat or talk for 2 days! then i went back to him to check on my stitches, well with my mouth open he put a little pair of scissor in there to cut it (seeing him coming towards me with scissors scared the crap out of me) well he snipped the side of my lip! i will NEVER see that doctor ever again, my regular dentist is a sweetheart though, but i still hate anybody messing with my gums and teeth
