did you know the reason why people from the south "talk funny"

Since people in the south have historically have been rural and poor. They don't wear shoes as kids. Now when a kid runs though the mud with no shoes on, the chances of him to get worms goes up drastically. The worms deplete the vitamins need for the brain to mature properly, and effect slow the brain down, so the speech pattens also slow down.

So if they would have had shoes, they would not talk funny

Haven't you paid attention to the rest of the USA? We all talk differently, but NOT funny. I love to hear people from Boston,or Massachusetts speak. Southern talk is my favorite. I have watched "Gone with the Wind" several times and took a trip all
through the south several years ago. My ancestors were there during the Civil War.

Well if you are talking about words like Fixin and All ya'all, I would have to say yes they do. I have lived in West Texas for almost seven years now and I still refuse to say those two words. There are many others too and some of the phrases they use are just plain Red Neck. Sorry, I hope I didn't offend any Southerners out there. I do have several friends here where I live. We just talk way different.

I don't tawlk funny.

As for shoes, I think more people should "kick off their shoes" and learn to relax every now and then.

There is a time and place to dress-up, but there should also be plenty of time to be casual. If more people would learn to do this, there would be a lot less stress! So, relax! Kick off your shoes if you want to. Learn to play. Wade barefoot in a creek. Or just sit on the front porch and cool off with a tall glass of sweet tea!

Ya'll come see us when you can! We won't say you talk funny if you don't say we do!

I love the way they talk! I am from Philadelphia, and my family had no slavery background, so until I was 35 and went to Atlanta for a meeting, I thought those accents were a fake put up job.

But after I went there and heard all the cute sayings and other stuff, I couldn't help but adore all that stuff!

One of my favorite movies is "O Brother, Where Art Thou?"

I have a new friend who is from Alabama, and she is just gifted with oddball speech. She calls the new style of sweaters that are short and almost bolero in style "titty-warmers" which had me doubled over in laughter! She calls her boss's lapdog a "ball of lint" and just pops out with all kinds of funny things in that musical, cutesy accent!

It's very entertaining.

I grew up down south. Only had shoes for school and going out to eat. No need for them otherwise. Talk funny? All across the country are different accents.

I am from Southern USA. I don't think I "talk funny" and I prefer to be barefooted as much as possible.

I do own several pairs of shoes though.

Don't believe everything you see on TV or in the movies.

And, by the way, you put this in the wrong category.

For a vast majority, I agree. However, I myself am a Floridian born and raised. I sound like a typical news reporter with no distinguishable accent at all, and wear shoes always. So, my existance refutes your claim, even though I somewhat agree. Cheers

I'm wearing shoes right now and we don't speek funny, our dialect is just different than people who live in the north, west, etc.

I don't believe they talk funny - the Southern accent is beautiful. And your question about the shoes - duh - ever been out of the Ozarks? Most people wear shoes when they go out, unless they are unfortunately homeless.
