No, the pet cannot. Viruses which cause flu or colds in us are "species specific". They have evolved along with their host and that is the only species they can live in.
Some species of viruses can jump species and start evolving in a new one. The mutations make it a different, though related virus. This happened with chimps when the AIDS virus jumped ship so to speak and evolved to infect humans. The present deep concern over the Avian Flu virus is that it too will mutate and become a danger to human beings.

Alot of people say no, however it is possible to pass infection or certain diseases to your pets.
Small pox is highly leathal to pets. I was a vet tech for the military and when we first invaded Iraq, all soliders going there were vaccinated for small pox, and you have to keep it covered for 7 days and throw away the bandage afterwards. We had many pets die from getting into the trast and exposing themselves to the small pox infected bandage.
Common colds can be passed to your pets as well, not very common, but if you pet is older and has a depleted immune system it is probable you can pass your nasties to your pet. Proper hygine will prevent this.

No! Colds are human viruses ands aren't passed on to cats. It may be allergies. I know my dog is allergic to many things. The signs of animal allergies are scratching of the paws, itchy and infected ears, and a stuffy nose. If you think your cat is sick keep a close eye on him. But you don't need to be worried about going near the cat when you have a cold.

I'd also say no.
But, so called "sympatetic illness", can cause the viruses to develop in both of you at about the same time.
Flu and colds are not transferable between cats and people though.

no, colds and flus are host specific, you can't give them to your cat and you can't get them from your cat.
