This is what happened in the Soviet Union and what folks are trying to do right now in the United States.

It leads to the "Wal-Marting" of culture.

My dear - you could not have uttered anything more fundamentally in error. It is secularism that has given you the "right" to practice your religion freely and without persecution. What if you were a Christian living in a Muslim totalitarian state? Would you not long for the secular freedoms that enable you to practice what you believe to be true?

Don't bite the hand that feeds you. And further, don't slide down the slippery slope to a nihilistic American theocracy. This, beyond anything else, is incredibly dangerous.

Secularism in a state does not mean a lack of individual responsibility.

Although usually those who subscribe to a dogma whos leaders wish to impose said dogma upon the state are weak minded and weak willed individuals who be swayed by the material consiousness of our society if some other "purpose" is not constantly shoved down their throats.

Secularism does not imply banning of spread of religion. Secularism implies that State will have nothing to do with religion. It treats all religions equally. All are free to pursue the religion they choose to.No one is allowed to do any act of omission or commission which will interfere with any one Else's rights. This is true even otherwise.

the US used to be a secular state and set of laws protecting our right to freedom of religion and freedom from religion being opressive

check out what Thomas Jefferson and Thomas Paine had to say about stuff like this

the words freedom and religion generally contradict each other, supposedly a person is free to choose own will or submission, that is not really freedom

"give me liberty, or give me death"

if the US becomes a theocracy as we seem to be headed, we are on same path to self destruction as others

A secular government may not be perfect, but it's a damn sight better than an oppressive theocracy of the type many Muslims and Christians would like to see implemented. Better by far to be the same and living in peace than to be in constant war over petty differences.

By Secularism, a state assures that all religious sections of people are free to practice their religions without hindrance. That is all. A country with universal brotherhood as its motto should not worry.

Just the opposite is historically true. Religions become a relentless engine of conformity that destroy all divergence and differentiation in the name of th eparticular view of that religion helpd by those inpower who use th religion to rule the masses. When state and religion combine evil is always, always, always the result as both government and faith are corrupted.

You are confused. A secular state does not ban religions; it simply assures that there is a separation between church and state.
