If that whole God thing doesn't work, I'd recommend seeing someone about it. Panic Disorder is treated a couple of ways...but the one that seems to work out best with the least amount of side effects is Behavioral therapy. Hard to describe, but it is a method of therapy that uses conditioning to change the way you react to a given situation.
Also, it is sometimes treated with drugs. Sometimes with both, depending on the underlying cause.

By finding the true cause of why you are having them. Panic/anxiety attacks are brought on by many different situations and mental illnesses. Don't try and just fix the anxiety attacks with a pill....try finding out if there is an underlying condition causing them. See a psychologist for some good talk therapy to get to that point. They will direct you to a psychiatrist or other md if they believe you also need meds. Good luck.

Look into L-Theanine which is described on various websites.
I noticed that Schiff, a vitamin manufacturer added L-Theanine to its Melatonin sleep aide which is available at Wal-Mart. So, it seemed like a legitimate substance. I checked it out on the Internet and found it at a health food store. It costs less than everything else and it works without side effects for me.
David Burns (I think) has a new anxiety attack/panic attack workbook out on the market. These workbooks are probably a better way of addressing this in the long run.
Also listening to music and physical and breathing exercises help.

Medication has helped me tremendously. I am on Paxil and Ativan. I avoided taking medication for a long long time and suffered when I did not need to. I tried herbal remedies they didnt work they werent aggressive enough. I tried therapy and the workbooks and the midwest center program and all of the info that they provided I already knew about by researching on the internet about anxiety and panic attacks so it wasnt of any help. I finally agreed to try medication. My doctor let me start off at a really low dose of Paxil I mean REALLY low because I was afraid of having side effects ( I am sensitive to meds even over the counter stuff,) I dont like taking anything unless I really need it. Anyways, I started at 1/4 of the starting dose and inceased it every 10 days untill I got to the dose that my doc recommended. That is how you avoid side effects. If you start on the recommended starting dose you could experience side effects and want to quit so tell your doc (if you decide on meds) that you feel comfortable starting low and increasing. Before the Paxil and Ativan I was having Panic attacks while out and then I started staying home. Then I started getting them in my own house! It was torchure! i am gettin out more and not having attacks and I dont have attacks at home either. I have come along way. If you have to resrt to meds so be it at least you will feel so much better. Dont waste time suffering like I did. There is no need.

It's not at all an act and it is REAL to the people that this happens to. Its horrible. For your doctor to say that "its not that bad" - IS BAD. These things are to be taken seriously. When it its real, its real but most people don't understand. You can't be like that, its not normal and it has to be taken care of now. You may have to go to a psychologist but that's not the worst thing in the world, perhaps the best for you and your family. Its nothing to be ashamed of but you have to do the right thing and get the help that you need. For some reason panic attacks happen so much more to our generation than our past generations and I don't know why and I don't know if really anyone does know why. I wish you the best but you have to take care of yourself, right now! Good Luck Honey and I wish you the best.

I was diagnoised with Social Anxiety disorder last year and I have been on paxil, valium, several anti depressants for many years before my doctor found out what I had. But the best thing that helped me was the midwest center for stress and anxiety. Go to www.stresscenter.com and they will send you a free packet of information that will help overcome your panic and anxiety attacks. Good Luck! Church helps also.

Are you getting enough sun, air and green parks? Are you eating properly and not fast food? Are you drinking plenty of water? If not, do all of those things and go volunteer. It may take a few weeks but if you get at least an hour of green, or park environment every day you should feel better in two weeks. Finally, it's often better to talk, so try a group or therapy.
With so much terrible information flying around, it might help to see a light movie-- get out of the house now, and go to the park.

You need to control your breathing. You can breath in & out with a brown paper bag over your mouth & nose & this will slow your breathing down. Also try using bachs rescue remedy available from your pharmasist, believe me this really works & is a non addictive herbal remedy. If things dont get better for you go & see your doctor to get the help needede.Good luck
