Hey Anthony T,
Yes, for fashion go to New York, not the GENEALOGY section of Yahoo Answers...

There is a section of Yahoo Answers that you can get better answers, just look through the categories and post more appropriately.

I'd go to 5th Avenue for Fashion in NY.

Since you are in the genealogy category, that changes the question. The Library of Performing Arts at Lincoln Center may have the historical information. The Humanities and Social Science Library on 42nd and 5th has a good genealogy collection. The NY Public Library Science, Business and Industry Library may have books dealing with association dealing with fashion and the industry.

If this is just in the wrong category, here are other things to consider.

For clothes still go to the Village and below, unless you want high level stuff, then shop Madison Avenue between 50th up to the 70's and higher Street.

For schools, Fashion Institute of Technology or Parsons School of Design.

For supplies to make your own, go to between 7th and 9th on 38th through 40th Street. (Warning not all store are at discounted prices.)

If you really want discounts try Essex Street on a Sunday and bargin.
