So I have been on numerous depression and anxiety medications over the past 6 years until now it was one ex: just welbutrin, or just effexor, just prozac etc... I just recently started going to a new doctor (about 3 months now) who now has me taking daily doses: 60mg of adderall, 150mg of effexor, and 150mg of welbutrin possibly going up to 300mg on welbutrin...
this just seems to me like alot of medicine on a daily basis... and i don't know anyone who takes these kinds of medicines at least not all together everyday...
so far the adderall and effexor have been working better than anything ive been on in the past, but not to what my doc. expected, so he upped the effexor and that didn't work (just made me very agitated) so now he added welbutrin and took the effexor back down to 150... anyone else out there on this many meds, or know what level of happiness I am supposed to be accomplishing with all of this? I've never really been what they call "happy" ever.

It is quite common for psycho pharmacologists/psychiatrist to experiment with medications until they find the mix and dosage that will make you "happy". If you are going to a reputable doctor, you have nothing to worry about. Depression and anxiety are like any other disease that can be treated with medication, If you had diabetes and needed insulin, you would take it, correct? Mental disorders are usually an inappropriate balance of chemicals in the brain, the meds you are on are simply correcting the imbalance. I was 35 years old when I started a mix of medications and I was truly "happy" for the first time in my life. My depression was not situational, no matter how good things were in my life, I never felt right. I feel like my life started at age 35 when I took medications that balanced the chemicals in my brain. MILLIONS of people are on combination drugs to help with mental disorders. Thank goodness they exist. Don't worry about the mix you are on, they are often prescribed together! Good luck to you!

Be extremely careful when mixing up your cocktail. I take Prozac and Elavil. My doctor last year changed me to Effexor and I ended up in the hospital for 5 days because it "froze" my bladder and I couldn't pee. As well as sharp stabbing pains in my back. These drugs have serious side effects. Don't ever let them switch your meds before weaning you off of one....and weaning on to another. NEVER stop taking them cold turkey unless you wish to have a breakdown with tears, severe agitation...and many other things. Your body just isn't able to compensate for the amount of serotonin that is lost.
As far as happiness goes........ Anti-depressants aren't made to make you happy. Unfortunatly anti-depressant really just means... not depressed, more like neutral. Happiness is really something that extremely subjective and no medicine do this for you. It's like someone telling a bad joke.... it's funny to them but not funny to you.
Anyhow, good luck.

Being happy is a choice.

I'm not saying that some people couldn't benefit from medication, because they certainly could. However....

I think that these doctors give out meds like candy to anybody who dwells on misery. Yet they don't have a clear enough understanding of the human brain to get it right the first time, so they experiment with this drug and that drug in various amounts, then have you come in, ask "how do you feel?" and adjust your dosage based on your reaction which is all out of whack from the experimentation of dosages. Then they find a combination that works for a while, and you become immune to it and they have to readjust it.

On top of that, they're in cahoots with the drug manufacturers who are in it for the profit, so they create all kinds of new illnesses and psychological disorders so that people will buy their meds.

Life simply sucks for lots of people. Those who let it get the best of them suffer and look for various ways out of it all, for example, little pills, those who don't enjoy it. Either way, you made a choice. When you realize that and stop thinking that you'll never be happy, and focus on things that are more positive, then the only think keeping you on the meds will be the fact that they are addictive, and you will tweak from "crashing" or the withdrawal symptoms.

I take Paxil and Wellbutrin. I was on Paxil only, and it worked fine but I was gaining so much weight I was going to stop taking it. My doctor lowered the dosage of the Paxil and supplemented it with Wellbutrin, to stem the weight gain. It seems to be working all right. I was just diagnosed with adult ADD, so I don't know what else I'm in for.

Klonopin 0.5 mg-1.0mg 2-3 times per day

Have taken 300mg Wellbutrin daily instead of Lexapro.
