On a global scale, the US police aren't very corrupt. I realize that's not a sexy answer. Most of them start out pretty straight-forward wanting to help other people and get stuck doing things they'd rather not be doing like sitting at a toll plaza watching for expired license plates. After a while, a few do get the idea that they're the law or somehow important and break the rules, but it's not on such a large scale as you can find in many countries. Still, being better than the police in some 3rd world country isn't a bragging point and from a purely objective point of view, the US police forces could do a better job by hiring people who are a bit more stable and understand their role in society better.

It was once said to me that police officers aren't perfect because they hire from the human race. There are bad cops and plenty of good cops. Just like the rest of society. Some of them even posted responses.

The police in San Antonio are the best!
I have traveled extensively in my home country (USA), and I have found other states' police forces to be very helpful, courteous folks, too. 'Course, usually, they're just doing their job and I'm just traveling through.

Gee were any of you ever pulled over? Did a few of you get DUI's? Did a few of you get your drugs taken away? There are 300,000 + police in the country. If they wanted to bully you, youd know it. You know what, Im gonna generalize too... If you dont like police, your a crack-head, cause only crack-heads get beat up by police. Next time someone breaks into your house, dont call the police, call your fix, or your pimp or the guy who sold you those stolen rims..... jerks.

think of your childhood and how half the boys and girls in your class claimed they wanted to be a police man/woman, or a fireman/woman. Do you think those kids had any intention of doing anything but helping the people? no. But what our society has turned into money starts to become more important then the cause.

If they are wearing a badge and a uniform there is a good chance they are corrupt. Very few people become police officers because they want to help society.

ALL POLICE ARE CORRUPT. If you already have a record and you get pulled over by a officer, you mide as well say forget about it care they'll trash your car, trunk, check your clothes. It's like they want everyone in jail so it'll just be police left to live in the world and everyone else in jail or prison. They're all crooked to me.......................Doctor J@e

I live next door to a deputy sheriff. He and his cop buddies will have a party (football, etc.) every month or so, and he'll bring in the beer. Then they party and drive away. Tell me they're not drunk!
