when in all the other translations I have put against their "Holy Scriptures" it doesn't have that in John 1 at all. Why would God say that Jesus was a god when God said that we should have NO OTHER GODS BEFORE HIM in the ten commandments? Plus, the bible says in Prov. 30:6 - Do not add to his words, or he will rebuke you and prove you a liar!
Why then do they add words to the bible?
1 Timothy 1:3-4
As I urged you when I went into Macedonia, stay there in Ephesus so that you may command certain men not to teach false doctrines any longer nor to devote themselves to myths and endless genealogies. These promote controversies rather than God's work—which is by faith.

Hey Britsurfer1
I'm not trying to pick a fight, but if you have the Holy Scriptures presented by the Jehovah Witnesses' read John 1:1 for yourself and you will see that it say the word was A god. John 1:14 "the word became flesh and made his dwelling among us." Meaning Jesus was the word so the JW's New World Translations says that Jesus was a god. Not cool

Their translation, the New World Translation, does not follow the Greek (kai theos en ho logos). They changed it because they do not (want to) believe in the Trinity.

According to John 1:1 (KJV) the Word (Jesus) was God.

Recall that the Bible is presently a book of decisions (amongst other things). One can have man as #1 in one's life, or Jesus as #1 in their life. (Recall also man is a false god, which started in the Garden (Gen. 3:5-6).
At least for myself at present, the 'easy' way to deal with God the Father, God the Son (Jesus), and God the Holy Ghost is to think of them as a team(not just as a collection of 3 beings).

Not only does the Jehovah's Witness bible say that Jesus was a God, but the Holy Catholic and King Jame's Version of of the Bible says that Jesus was God. Jesus said "The Father and I are One" which means that Jesus is God. The Godhead is made up of 3 parts. There is God, the Father, God, the Son, and God, the Holy Ghost. Amen

JWs do not recognise the diety of Christ. And they do not follow the teaching of Christ as he gave us in The Christian Bible. Because, the JWs are not of The True Christian Faith. They have there own corrupt "bible". They are controled by the man?woman invented Watch Tower society and put that teaching over and above Christ.

Jesus is indeed God. Jesus is The Word. read John 1 at the link below.

Dr Julius Mantey

"whenever an article does not precede a noun in Greek, that noun can either be considered as emphasizing the character, nature, essence or quality of a person or thing, as theos (God) does in John 1:1", or it can be translated in certain contexts as indefinite.

Character, nature, essence or qualities of a person does not mean that person is the other person, it means they reflect the qualities of that person. Does Jesus manifest the qualities of God?

Yes. Heb. 1:3 3 "And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature"
New American Standard Bible

According to Jason BeDuhn theNWT has translated it correctly as indefinite (Dr Julius Mantey)

Associate Professor of Religious Studies, and Chair
Department of Humanities, Arts, and Religion
Northern Arizona University

According to Jason BeDuhn, to correctly translate "the Word was God", the definite article "the" would have to be in the Greek.
'and word was the God'

Since John did not use "the" therefore unbias translator should not use it either.

Hence the proper translation of John 1:1 is "the Word is a god"

As to the number of gods talked about in the bible Please compare Ps 82:6 to John 10:30-35

I have a friend who was raised on the jehovas witness religion and he is incredibly peacefull. But they are christians in truth. They do not refer to jesus as GOD, but the son of GOD. It is christians who aknowledge him as GOD. The trinity inside of jesus. I have heard this from a christian. His exact words when I asked were,"jesus is GOD. He is the son, father, and holy spirit".

In the bible jesus is referred to as son of "man". Though he always called GOD the father. This was in the first chapters of the new testament(I am not christian but have read the bible). But later on he was manifersted into son of GOD. Then GOD himself. To the conclusion that there was no lord other than jesus. This was in the bible. But people can not dispute the fact that jesus is not the lord GOD of Israel(pbuh). To the point, jesus is not the GOD of jacob(pbuh). TRUTH. So there is a whole other entity just as how the jehovas witnesses believe. I have never read any "Holy Scripture" of a jehovas witness. They use the bible(not the KJ version) and they interperet the way they read it. Out of all the christians and christian denomonations, they have it closest to the truth. They would rather give a word and let you have a choice. Regardles of how persistant. But they never force through compulsion against ones own will(and persistant with words are not going against your own will. only your patience). They simply do what jesus told his apostles to do.

It is not jehovas witness', but christians who accept jesus as GOD. Jehovas witness aknowledge him as son of GOD and will always look to jehova as a totaly different entity. They have it the closest to being correct.

EDIT: Please don't take this as me trying to say I know and you know not. Because that is far from the fact. The thing is, you were just misinformed and now I am correcting it.

PEACE!

The questioner seems insufficiently studied, and the premise is simply untrue. Here are other English translations which carry the same thought as the New World Translation, distributed by Jehovah's Witnesses:
http://watchtower.org/bible

The New English Bible
“what God was, the Word was.”

Moffatt
“the Logos was divine.”

An American Translation
“the Word was divine.”

Authentic New Testament
“the Word was divine.”

Emphatic Diaglott (interlinear)
“a god was the Word.”

The New Testament in an Improved Version
“the Word was a god”

Anti-Witnesses have proven themselves to be far too comfortable twisting the words of Jehovah's Witnesses and Witness apologists. Sadly, anti-Witnesses are becoming similarly comfortable twisting the Word of God and honest translations of the Holy Scriptures themselves...

Jehovah's Witnesses teach that no salvation occurs without Christ, that accepting Christ's sacrifice is a requirement for true worship, that every prayer must acknowledge Christ, that Christ is the King of God's Kingdom, that Christ is the head of the Christian congregation, that Christ is immortal and above every creature, even that Christ was the 'master worker' in creating the universe! However, none of that implies that Jesus the Son is identical to Jehovah the Father.

Here are a few Scriptures that clearly explain the bible's view:

(Mark 10:18) Jesus said to him: 'Why do you call me good? Nobody is good, except one, God.

(Revelation 3:14) the Amen says, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation by God

(Philippians 2:5-6) Christ Jesus, who, although he was existing in God's form, gave no consideration to a seizure, namely, that he should be equal to God

(John 8:42) Neither have I come of my own initiative at all, but that One sent me forth

(John 12:49) I have not spoken out of my own impulse, but the Father himself who sent me has given me a commandment as to what to tell and what to speak

(John 14:28) I am going my way to the Father, because the Father is greater than I am

(1 Corinthians 15:28) But when all things will have been subjected to him, then the Son himself will also subject himself to the One who subjected all things to him

(Matthew 20:23) this sitting down at my right hand and at my left is not mine to give, but it belongs to those for whom it has been prepared by my Father

(1 Corinthians 11:3) I want you to know that the head of every man is the Christ; ...in turn the head of the Christ is God

(John 20:17) I am ascending to my Father and your Father and to my God and your God.

(Deuteronomy 6:4) Jehovah our God is one Jehovah

(1 Corinthians 8:4-6) There is no God but one. For even though there are those who are called "gods," whether in heaven or on earth, just as there are many "gods" and many "lords," there is actually to us one God the Father, out of whom all things are, and we for him

As far as I know, Jehovah's Witness' teach that Jesus was a good man, not God. The Holy Trinity includes God the father, Jesus the son and the Holy Ghost.. or Holy Spirit. Jesus said, me and my father ARE one. He said when I go, I will not leave you comfortless... I will send the HOLY SPIRIT. God is not limited to one person, but is one.

it DOES NOT say he is god,it says he WAS with god,I have it here in front of me...

1 In [the] beginning the Word was, and the Word was with God, and the Word was a god. 2 This one was in [the] beginning with God. 3 All things came into existence through him, and apart from him not even one thing came into existence.

What has come into existence 4 by means of him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 And the light is shining in the darkness, but the darkness has not overpowered it.

6 There arose a man that was sent forth as a representative of God: his name was John. 7 This [man] came for a witness, in order to bear witness about the light, that people of all sorts might believe through him. 8 He was not that light, but he was meant to bear witness about that light.

The Jehovah's Witnesses are a "friend church" and I use both friend and church loosely. I'm not sure they know exactly what they are founded on. They are just one step away from being a cult. My step mother was in the Jehovah's Witnesses and they screwed her over big time. She finally got out. The Jehovah's are out soliciting their religion all the time and they promise people salvation for going door to door and trying to collect money. I would take anything the Jehov's say with a grain of salt as they are more in it for the money than anything else. It's almost like a little pyramid scheme.
