A factor of any given number is a whole number that that number divides evenly by. So, for example, 6 and 15 are both factors of 30, but 7.5 is NOT a factor of 30 even though 30/7.5=4 (because 7.5 is not a whole number). A prime factor is any factor of a given number that is prime, and any whole number higher than 1 can be described uniquely according to its prime factors. For example, the prime factors of 75 are 3, 5, 5 (because 3*5*5=75).
In algebra, factors are slightly different, they are the TERMS (rather than the numbers) that multiply together to make a given term. So the factors of x^2-1 are x-1 and x+1 (that particular example is also the difference of two squares).

Any of two or more quantities that are multiplied together. In the expression 3.712 x 11.315, the factors are 3.712 and 11.315.
A matrix of variables by terms showing which variables appear in which terms. The entries are 0 if the variable does not occur in the term, 1 if it does occur and should be coded by contrasts, and 2 if it occurs and should be coded via dummy variables for all levels (as when an intercept or lower-order term is missing). If there are no terms other than an intercept and offsets, this is numeric(0) .
