My son is 2 and he sucks his thumb and has a favorite blanket that he can't live without. I am expecting a baby in Dec. Should I wait to break the habit until after the baby comes or before? I just potty-trained him and I don't want to overwhelm him with new things.

You could try painting some horrible tasting anti nail biting solution on his thumb if this really is a problem for you.Your little boy is only 2 & gets lots of comfort from sucking his thmb & his comfort blanket. I think you should wait a while as your son will feel a bit jealous of the new baby& will need to feel secure. my girls have the same age gap as your children & my eldest adapted well,but i did let her have her dummy still.Your son will decide when he is a big boy,he has already done so well to be potty trained already.The best thing you can do is to relax & enjoy both of your children while they are young. From experience i can tell you their childhood passes by too quickly. Your children are lucky to have such a kind & caring mum. hope whatever your decision,all goes well with your little boy & also the new baby

When it comes to sucking thumbs fingers etc. you need to lat them grow out of it themselves. Forcing the issue with just frustraight you, with a new baby coming into the home he will need this comfort that is his alone. I myself sucked 2 of my fingers on my left hand in an odd way to fall asleep. I stopped around 11 believe it or not. It wasn't something I did in public.
If you try to get him to stop now, he might regress with other stuff.
Congrats on Potty training him at 2, it is a huge help before a new one comes home. However if you try to stop him from sucking his thumb he may try to go back to diapers or a bottle or if your breast feeding want that comfort. Just enjoy both children and let nature take its cource.

Put something that is very bitter on this thumb every time he sucks it. And try to break him out of it now, cause if you wait, it will be way to late.

II did not know, when he start to suck his thumb?
Here's a way to make him stop sucking while sleeping by
trying now to smear a little bit of mayonnaise on his thumb

just rub neem leaves or put something on his thumb that is very bitter in taste.
