I don't think there is a right or wrong answer there. It just depends if you feel more comfortable if you did send them one, however I don't think that people expect it.

Sending a thank-you card to people who sent a sympathy card is a nice gesture, but it isn't required.
However, you *should* send a thank-you card or note to people who sent flowers or brought food, etc.

Yes, sending a thank you card is the proper thing to do, regardless of whether they attended the funeral or sent flowers, etc.

Yes , totaly. I sent them out , after I got all my Sympathy cards, it's just a nice way of showing you do appericate it ! Go ahead , it's 100% Ok :)

It's not necessary or expected to return a card for a card, but if you want to thank them, a thank-you card is appropriate.

From personal experience I have sent a card to people that reached out to me after the loss of someone very close to me. It just said that their thoughts were very comforting at at very tough time and that I appreciated it.
Having said this, I do not believe you are obligated to do so. I believe it is entirely up to you.

There is never anything wrong with telling someone Thank You for doing something nice for you. I would not feel obligated to do it either though.
