It depends upon which language you're reading.
Most answerers are citing John 11:35, "Jesus wept." However, the NT was originally written in Greek. When we examine the original Greek text, the shortest verse is actually 1 Thes. 5:16 ("rejoice always,") which contains fewer letters than the Greek version of John 11:35.

it is: john 11 v 5: "jesus wept." and the shortest chapter is psalm 117 with only 2 verses.

Honestly, I think it's "Jesus wept". And I think it's in one of the books of the apostles.
