The Matrix followed in many ways the standard Messianic Myth, just as Mithras did, just as Yshua of Nazaeth did, just as Hitler tried, just as Narnia did.
The Messianic myth is a standard story form and many stories follow it. The fact they share a form does not mean they are related by anything more than that form itself.

When I first saw it, I wondered if the concept was meant as a commentary on the blind faith almost everyone lives their lives by.
...not so much Christianity, but faith in general.
But, it does share common themes found throughout fantasy liturature, including the Bible.
- a superhero saves the day from a super villain (superman/lex luther, jesus/satan, Neo/Agent Smith)
- superhero gets divine guidance (superman goes to the crystal palace, jesus communes directly with god, neo gets advice from the oracle)
- everyone else is helpless and their fates will be determined soly by whoever wins

There are many. My favorite is the view of this world as not being the ultimate reality. That there is a far more important drama unfolding behind the scenes.

Messianic undertones. Yes I would have to agree with that. I see that in other movies too.

I thought the whole idea of christianity was that "we" have free control.
There is no predestination, you determine your future.
Just because your God claims to know what is going to happen, doesn't mean it is being controlled.
However, the Matrix was being actively controlled.
Of course, who cares, there is no God.
Live, love, learn and follow the golden rule.

It most CERTAINLY has Christian undertones...
With names like Trinity, and places like Zion... and the 'ressurection' of Neo, the one who has been chosen to save them all... it's VERY Christian-mythology centric.

Yep, I'm sure that was part of the statement the writers wanted to make.

You can liken every story of good vs evil to the bible, after all its referred to as the original good vs evil struggle. Although i doubt it was intended to be that way.
