I am not responsible if you loose or corrupt the data. For more specific instruction go to www.tldp.org/
1. Put your Linux CD and boot. Choose graphical installation.
2. Partition your drive (Choose atumatic). Make sure the partiton are not overlapping with each other. Then click OK or Done or Finish.
3. Select your package to install then click Install.
4. Configure Lilo/Grub to start on superblock (NOT MBR!!!). Finish. Restart.

I hope you have your first Linux.

...because linux and windows use different file systems you have to use two seperate partitions. It will appear as if you have two seperate hard drives when in reality you have one physical drive. You can have XP in one partition, format the other using the linux cd and then install it on the partition that doesnt have XP on it, You may need to completely erase the current XP so that you can have 2 fresh partitions.

hello
why install linux ? & take up partition space
you can just run linux from the cd
all you do is burn linux on to cd,then put the cd in the drive, close off the linux window that opens ,restart your pc ,then linux will boot up from the cd, your have 2 options,
1 : too install
2: to boot up from
to save space ,just go to the boot linux option,
but if you want to your need to partition the hard drive frist, then install linux on to the partition hard drive, too be safe it is best if you just boot from the linux ,cd then when your done using linux login just restart your pc and remove the linux ,cd and windows xp , will boot back up ,that way your not have any problem's in loss of data & your not use up partition space

What you are looking to do is "dual-boot" the system. Ideally, you want to have WIndows installed first. It is not a bad idea to back up your data first. If the Linux install does not go right, you could lose your data.

You will want to check out the links for information on how to properly set your system up for a "dual-boot".

This is what you must do. Go into your C drive. Click on the program icon for your hard drive. This is what you must do start deleting most of the programs on it. Because most of those programs are not being used by anything and it is safe to get rid of them. Once you have gotten rid of 3/4 of your programs you must restart your pc. Plus some of your windows files are corrupted from when windows was installed on your pc and they have viruses on them so you need to go through them and start deleting them asap. Once that is done you must restart and then your windows program will start up faster. And your whole pc will run even smoother. Go and do it now so you can spend more time on your pc.
