Bose doesn't make home theater equipment with the listener in mind, meaning that they don't care how the music is SUPPOSED to sound, they just care that they are MUCH cheaper to produce and more expensive to sell than a REAL speaker company, = LARGE PROFIT MARGIN. Having been a salesperson for many years, I didn't mind selling Bose to the people that were just dead set on having it, because that meant a bigger payday for me, but anyone that I respected enough to give the time of day, I would do everything in my power to convince to buy something, or ANYTHING other than Bose.
Bose isn't a quality speaker or electronics company, but they ARE an AMAZING marketing company! They have more than 30% of Americans believing that tubby, bloated sounding, thumping bass with washed out mid's and screeching highs is what music is supposed to sound like, and that makes me sad!! Do me a favor and go to a REAL stereo store that carries not only Bose, but other brands like B&K, Denon, Yamaha, and Pioneer Elite for electronics, and Vienna Acoustics, Klipsch, Definitive Technologies, Martin Logan and many others for speakers. You will notice that Bose is almost NEVER put into the same room as other brands, because Bose tells these copmanies NOT to put their products where they can be compared directly to another brand. They are hoping that your ears will forget the major sound differences in the time it takes to go from the "Bose room" to another listening room! Sad but true! Just bring your favorite quality audio recording (NOT something like Chocolate starfish and the hotdog flavored water!) like Aimee Mann, John Coltrane, Jack Johnson, or Norah Jones (something where audio fidelity was thought of while making the record!) and just close your eyes and listen. You will be SHOCKED at how bad Bose sounds in comparison!
Hope this helps!

If you want the Bose lifestyle system just get a clock radio and send me the other $800. Did you ever notice that Bose is the only speaker manufacturer that advertises on TV? Do you think that's because they make the best speakers? Notice that the commercial never says that it sounds BETTER than a "traditional five speaker surround system"; it just says it "rivals" it. Rivals leaves a lot to interpretation. It also says that "a person used to listening to TV through their TV speakers will be blown away by the Lifestyle system." Most TV speaker systems are horrible so an improvement would be easy.
Before you follow the herd and buy Bose, give this link a good look and go check out some real speakers.

no i do not own one. why, cause bose IMO isnt what its cracked up to be. i think there mids and highs are not bad, but they almost dont have lows. i too was one to think Bose was the best. then i stepped out of best buy and listend to stuff at a private shop. i was blown away by a few differnt speaker brands. the one i went with was Klipsch. not the Klipsch they sell at best buy, but the Referance Series. great stuff. you should check it out.

BOSE is not worth the money, it's not even worth it for free. They sound terrible (thin and tinny), are way overpriced for what you're actually getting and it's not good quality stuff. You can get much better for the same price and even less. People at high end audio/video places won't even recommend the product, even if they do carry it. It's not bait and switch, it's getting you better bang for your buck. Invest a little more time into research so you get a better investment out of your purchase.

Bose actually withdrew their kit from being reviewed for many years, because the reviews they were getting were lousy. They are allowing reviews again - and they're still lousy!
Bose is all about looks, not sound quality.
(Think about that very carefully...)
