It is a fruit. All fruits have seeds or a pit. Vegetables do not have seeds and can grow of itself. Therefore, despite popular belief. Tomatoes, cucumbers, green peppers are fruits despite the fact we find them in the vegetable section of our supermarket.
Watermelon having seeds definitely puts it in the fruit category.

Some would say that it's a fruit as the seeds are on the inside but then what about the Marrow? I don't class the marrow as a fruit or the pepper, the cucumber, the gerkin etc etc. The list could go on and on.

If it comes from a flower, then it is a fruit eg, apple, pear, tomato.
I think watermellons grow from the female part of the flower (hence all the seeds) so I would say it is a fruit.
