Better you should understand the filesystem types before that.
Linux installation could be easier or Havock
Depends upon your knowledge level
One more thing Give your Question in details
like which Operating system you want to install i.e. RedHat,SUSE, etc.
What ever the operating system they all carry nessary files to be read by newbie.
Make a habbit to visit the Doveloper of the Software.
As a mother knows her baby best.
you could be called a master if guided from dovelopers.

Linux is faster and easier to install. Typically only one reboot during the Linux install. If you are new to Linux get Ubuntu, it is awesome.
