There is no quintessential answer to that. For individuals can be liked for many different things. One can be a total giver and still not be liked. So i would say just be true to oneself ,honest with your fellow man and be a friend. You cannot buy complete love. Goodness comes from within.Be yourself do what you love, respect others and it would be returned.

be kind
be compassionate
listen, listen, listen
and understand others.
help them get their needs met.
don't try to solve their problems.
