Don't stress out. Stress causes cortisol in the blood to raise and cortisol causes belly fat. When I start to feel myself get stressed, i immediately force myself to calm down. The last thing i want is to be stressed and getting belly fat at the same time.
I also had really good luck with Victoria Johnson's Ab Lab dvd. I actually bought it off of Target's 1 spot, for a dollar, but bought it for my mom, and 2 of my friends off Amazon for like the same price. It is short, strengthens your abdominal wall, therefore making your posture better and burning fat right where you want to, and you naturally hold yourself in better. I lost 3 inches from this dvd around my waist, after only 2 weeks of doing it 4-5 times a week.

My ideas? Try to do 200 minutes of cardio a week. Remember fat does not turn into muscle, so you need to lose your fat while putting on muscle. Work hard, but don't over 60 minutes at a time. Do planks and other abs exercises on alternate days.
On training days, do 5-10 minutes of cardio to warm up, then do your weight training. Do 30 to 60 minutes more of cardio, then go home.
The best time to eat is just after your workout within an hour when your metabolism is raging. For your muscles, incorporate some isolated soy protein or whey protein. Whey is more potent but the soy tastes better!
Don't look at your scale as the be all and end all, but get a measuring tape to check your progress, and that will show more tangible results.
Read magazines like Shape, Womens Fitness, Fitness, etc to get tips and to stay motivated.
Good luck and stick at it. This plan has lost me 20 lbs in 12 weeks so far, just go for it!

I think you should consult a specialist for that. Your situation has some risks because of the surgery. But if your body can do some physical exercise, it is the best way to lose fat. Moreover, the control of your food intake would be a big advantage. Hope you can solve your problem soon.

There are lots of tapes you can do, including dance. Best exercise though is crunches and sit-ups. If you can't do that, definitely dancing will help you in the long run.

Consult your doctor. your health is the most important thing first and formost. If your doctor says that it is ok, exercise and a sensible diet, but be concerned with the healing of your body first and formost, If you aren't healthy, then nothing else matters.
