I think that one of the drugs I was on for allergies was making me depressed. I was overeating uncontrollably, sleeping constantly, and feeling extremely depressed. Even people at my work and my family commented on my mood changes. Once I realized what it was, I stopped taking the medication, and I have been feeling better since.
Lately, however, I have been having trouble sleeping. I was sleeping soundly 9-10 hours per night. Now I can't fall asleep, sleep lightly, and wake up at 3am every morning, wide awake.
I feel like I may be depressed, but I am not sure if maybe it is just stressed.
What other syptoms should I be looking for.
I am going to the doctors in a few weeks, and I am wondering if I should mention this.
How do I approach it? I am comfortable with my doctor, but I just don't really know what to say.

Please be brave & go & speak to your doctor,he will listen & help you. He may give you some anti-depressants & refer you to a counsellor. Believe me these things really help. Waking at 3am is a sign of depression,I wake most nights around that time.

Tell your doctor just what you told us. Lack of sleep is a sign of depression. So are unexplained body aches, feeling tired all the time. I don't think the allergy medicine gave you depression. If your job is very stressful that's where it came from.

Hang in there, depression can be treated.

Just be very direct. Explain that you are concerned that you may be depressed. The doctor will then know what questions to ask you.

Depression is an ugly illness and can grip anyone at any time.

Good Luck

I often wake up when my body needs to go to the toilet. it's no big deal.
one aspect of treating depression is to make sure your body clock is working correctly...that means getting enough fresh air, exercise, and sunlight.
and as you get older your body needs less sleep anyway.
