i`m worried about the fumes i mite inhale... is it enough to make me have mercury poisoning?

Mercury fumes are very toxic. There was a spill in a local school here in my area a few years ago. They spent over $30,000 cleaning that up. They replaced carpets, kid's clothes, backpacks, furniture, and so forth. I don't know how much you spilled, but I'd contact the local health department and ask them.

For that small an amount of pure metallic mercury, what your mom did was just fine. I've done the same thing several times with no ill effects. Mercury-bearing compounds in our food is another issue...

if you are in the uk ,you need to inform the council these days so they can fumigate,but when i was a nurse years ago we would regularly break them and just clear them away.
