I don't believe that was the original intent.
WMDs (biological, chemical and nuclear) were the root cause with a country that was considered one of the 'axis of evil' because of warlord type president Suddam Hussain. Suddam and his brother had a history of killing and torturing vasts numbers of people for opposing them. The small cache of wmds found in a mud pit dating back to the early 80's was not considered newly built and possibly not usable. The information that was provided to the US government appears to have been fabricated that terrorists moved freely in Iraq along with support-of. Also, the satellite photos over Iraq (going into 2003) showed activity around the nuclear sites that could have possibly been used for refining urinanium enrichment. Today, we see that as false as well.
The product of ousting any country's president will be to bring in a new government in place and assure that the country will grow and be stable before leaving. This needs to be done fairly so imposing a democratic government allows the majorities of people in Iraq to choose their own government. Another take is the training and establishment of an Iraq'y police force and army.
So, we may look at this as an imposing 'ramming freedom down their throats', but there is no other way. America is the most powerful country in the world and wants world-wide peace. There is termoil in Iraq which wasn't anticipated to such a degree. We all need to learn from this---God help us with the decision the US makes with Iran.
At lease, this is what I was 'sold on'.

I think a lot of things were and are behind the reason we went into Iraq!!
If the people there really want freedom they will now fight for it instead of destroying it, If they want democracy they won’t dictate it.

yes , I do. America hoped to do that. now because of too much freedom all at once , they don't know what to do with that. kill every one else in sight??
america tried shoving democracy up but seems they got stuck there. and apparently america & and their great 'powerful' ally the royal UK are doing the bleeding now.

I think the US thinks they are they best in every respect and therefore everyone should be like them. In some cases this is true but in Iraq it was never going to work. The coalition tore the country apart and will eventually leave them to sort out the mess we made.

No. They went in out of paranoia. Bush is incapable of wishing anything good to anyone. You can always see this on his sadistic facial expressions. The 'freedom' and 'democracy' hype are always plausible camouflages for his evils.

No but certain of our leaders' ideas about what Iraqis desired and Iraqi's ideas about what freedom is from their perspective were absolutely ill conceived.

No. Actually I think most Iraqis wanted "freedom". Unfortunately, due to Iraqi and US bumbling they got civil war instead.

I think we went there to prevent saddam from killing more of his people. And because of the wmd's that weren't found with the exception I've heard of sarin gas.

i think we went there with the idea of taking over the oil they have, and using it to flood the markets and break opec, we used to be the oil power of the world, due to idiocy and bad management we arent any more, and the oil companies dont like it, and what they dont like, they tell bush not to like.
