Christians had monty pythons life of brian, one of the funniest films of all time, taking a right old go at christians yet in this modern 21st age, taking the mickey out of Muslims results in a hysterical reaction thats way over the top. Okay it might be wrong to do it in Muslim countires, but the UK isn't a Muslim country?

So, why do you react so badly when it is our right to laugh at your beliefs?

I sometimes think little pixes steal my car keys, but I am not going to burn someone who doesn't share this belief and takes the pi$$ when i mention it? P.S. yes, i do think my believing in little pixes is as relavent as all you sheep believing in a big invisble chap in the sky that hints at blowing up infidels!

I think (generally speaking of course) that Christians are more relaxed than Muslims. Christianity is a religion that offers guidance in life, Islam seems to be the basis of life for most Muslims. It defines who they can marry, what they can wear, what and when they can eat. Generally speaking, it is a less "relaxed" religion and is taken more seriously. Islam seems to be a way of life. Christianity is just a belief and teachings. Of course there are many exceptions to this, some Christians are more stricter and some Muslims are more relaxed about their religions.

You don't have to go back too far in history to find a time when the same could be said of christians. After all look at the fuss made about Jerry Springer the musical.

The problem is as one person said the whole muslim faith is tarred with the fanatic brush. Fanatics of any religion are dangerous, just look at the good old USA where the bible belt is full of nutters.

The only difference I can see is that Islamic fundamentallists seem more prone to violence than members of other religions and are much easier to incite. How many of the people we see on TV burning effigies of the pope do you think have actually heard what he said. I bet most of them are just reacting to what they have been told by their leaders. The trouble is it will only end badly for them unless they start to see the error of this violence.

I don't know if a sense of humor is what is what is missing here. They take Islam very seriously.
What is needed here is the understanding that not all people take their religion as seriously as they do and because someone draws a derogatory picture of Mohammed or the Roman Catholic Pope says something in a speech they don't agree with is no reason to take up arms and shoot a nun four times in the back!!
If Christians did the same thing every time a Jesus was drawn derogatory or a Muslim leader said something derogatory about Christianity we would be up in arms every day all day long.

There are other ways to handle situations besides burning effigies and shooting people.

I'm sure there are plenty of Muslims who do have a sense of humour however I think a lot do take it too seriously. Same with some Christians who do the same.

I'm Pagan and am more than happy to hear the ol' tree hugging hippy/dancing naked jokes. So long as it's done in a friendly way of course :o)

I'd like to think if there is a god then they've got a sense of humour. We only have to see a man naked to realise that *winks*

Weirdly - I have a kind of grudging respect for them.

I suspect that if you dug deeply enough most of the fanatics have either a sketchy or warped interpretation of their own religion (Born again Christians certainly do) but at least they practice what THEY preach.

I get more frustrated at wooly liberal religious folks - either believe in your faith system, and defend it, or dump it - don't keep changing your 'take' on it to fit every generation - that is shamelessly trying to survive despite the evidence/etc.

99% of 'religious' folks are not nutters and if they practiced the mercy/kindness/humility etc bits of Christianity/Islam et al as fervently as the nutters do the burn/hate/jihad/crusade bit maybe they would impress good old secular atheists like me a bit more

May want to consider the fact, these people are taught (from infancy) to hate the crusaders of history and anyone connected to them, down thru the ages..In any other culture this is considered brain washing. The end result of any brain washing always ends up with fanatacism. They continue to be controlled and manipulated by the mullahs, who are strict monotheists. They apparently enjoy their seat of power over the masses of willing and helpless followers.

They continue to stress the peace loving factor of their religion but, their actions indicate something quite different. It only gets worse when one reads the Qu`ran and sees what they are commanded to do, in the name of Allah.

This is the problem - the majority of muslims aren't finatics (we make up 1 fifth of the world's population so would be worryin if we were). However, the ones that gain exposure are the nutters who make good news. As this is all people get to see on their televisions it has led to people believing this is what all muslims are like. It wouldn't be good news to see the muslim whose fundamental belief it is to lead a simple life and stand up for all that is good.

Some do. They just aren't the people who make a big deal of things. Give the kids a while to get their act together. Also, for some middle eastern cultures, satire and caricature are not very well understood.

Any Religion that teaches you to hate your fellow brother is of the
Antichrist.
1Jo 3:10 In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.
1Jo 3:11 For this is the message that ye heard from the beginning, that we should love one another.
1Jo 3:12 Not as Cain, who was of that wicked one, and slew his brother. And wherefore slew he him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother's righteous.
1Jo 3:13 Marvel not, my brethren, if the world hate you.
1Jo 3:14 We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death.
1Jo 3:15 Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him.
In Christ in Love,

I think to a certain extent we are all very sensitive when it comes to our religion. Now grant you I wouldn't go out and kill somebody of it but I would like to sit down and talk to them about why they felt that way. I guess I'd really have to study their religion to find out about their beliefs. I do believe that most Muslims are not bad.
