Probably a lot of us have, and have not been aware of who they are. Most large cities have a leprosy clinic, which sees patients something like once or twice a month. Hansen's disease is simply a myobacterial infection that can be controlled quite completely with proper medications. They usually show no outward signs of the disease. Nor do they tell their social contacts of their condition due to the intense social stigma surrounding it.

I am sure that in underdeveloped countries, colonies of Hansen's patients still exist, but I have not been to any of those.

No, its so sad that it can be cured easily, but they can't afford the treatment.
