How do you deal with someone who get's on your last nerve?

My Mom’s husband. It seems like his day isn’t complete unless he finds something to argue about. It’s always something little and stupid. He’s the kind of guy that can say what he wants and when you answer him back, all hell breaks loose because he always thinks he’s right and most of the time he has no IDEA what he’s talking about.

I try ignoring him, that doesn’t seem to work lately and I’m usually good at ignoring people. I’ve prayed for more patience but God works on his own timing. But in the meantime, I’d like some help because it’s gotten so bad, the mention of his name set’s me in a bad mood, let alone being in the same room with him. My mom feels the tension and It’s bothering her. So, help me out. How do I deal with this man without killing him?

You are giving him too much power over your life, one can only get on your nerves if you allow him too. Know the things that you have to do,and do them, then hopefully, you have everything in your room, that you can stay as far as possible, away from him. Just engage in small talk, with him, of course use your manners, and speak, and that is all, If he wants to know what is the matter, just say nothing, or if you have the nerve, you could say, every time I do say something in this house, it starts an argument, so I am trying to be more mature about this and I feel that since it upsets me so much, it is best not voice my opinion. Keep praying, it does work, but you have to believe.

I'm not trying to defend him, but maybe he's bored and this is the only way he can communicate it to people.
You don't give an example of what he says so giving you a come back for it is hard.
I say things like; 'Well, if your opinion counted I might listen to you.' Or 'That's just your opinion and your opinion don't count for much.'
One of my own favorites is "Oh, I'll just run right home and lose sleep over that!"
Or you can 'yes, dear,' him to death. I assume you don't call him 'dad' so let's say him name is John. Whatever he says, just say "Yes, John. Yes, John. Yes, John." and use a monotone voice, until he either blows apart into tiny pieces, or falls over from your fatal verbal attack. (It helps you if you can picture him blowing apart, or falling over).
Always keep in mind that your mom is the reason you're doing this, and that should motivate you to hold the peace.

i can understand how u feel and beside praying for god's wisdom on this matter and the strength to be patience and loving, pls do not confront with him directly because when we are upset, our words can hurt even 6 feet man and those words arenn't retractable. it's better to be quiet at times and if u maintain a peaceful heart with compassionate love for him, he will feel it. will pray 4u.

Can't you ask your mom to tell him to give you a break and get out your face? Maybe you got to sit him down and find out why he does that, otherwise AVOID, AVOID, AVOID

Have you talked to your mom about this? Sit down and talk with her about how stressful this is for you.

He can only get to you if you allow him to. When he starts in, tune him out and he will know you're one person he cannot get to as you could care less what he has to say.
