My computer is a couple of years old, and when I did the latest Windows update (I use Windows XP) it said my copy of Windows wasn't genuine. I can't find my Windows XP disk, but I'm almost sure it was brand new when I installed it. Now, I have a new icon by my clock and it pops up every hour or so saying that I may be a victim of software counterfeiting. Of course when I click it, it takes me to a Microsoft page that basically says I have to buy a new copy. Is there any way to undo this? Any way out of buying another copy of Windows? Also, on my Control Panel under Add/Remove programs, I have 25 Windows XP Hotfix items, (& 1 Windows Genuine Advantage Notification). Aren't these taking up space? My hard drive is only 5.35 GB and it's nearly full. Can I SAFELY get rid of any of the Windows Hotfix items? And how do I fix the problem of my software not being genuine, short of buying another copy? I don't really care that it's not genuine, I just hate dealing with the popup every hour.

There are ways to disable the Genuine Advantage Notification. You will have to find and install a crack for that. Be careful though, as some of those cracks may included viruses and other things. You are almost better just buying a new copy.

The hotfixes should not be uninstalled. Many are security updates for Windows. If you are running low of hard drive space, you should consider buying a new hard drive. They are really cheap now, you can get a much bigger one for less than $100 in any store

When you use automatic update from microsoft they automattically put windows notification file on your computer , this then checked if it is a valid or pirated copy of Windows.
You can get a crack for this and I suggest you make sure that automatic update is switched off and use manual update

If it's a couple of years old, you'll need to replace it to run Vista anyway, so why not replace it now, but with a computer that won't give you all these problems? Get a Mac!

You can run Windows on a Mac if you need/want to, but OS X is so much better that you won't want to, and you probably won't ever need to.

what you have done is that you have downloaded a update from microsoft and its been installed on your computer what you can do is look through your control panel and go to add/remove and look through your hot fixes and patches should be somewhere in there, just pay attention to what you are looking at.
