South Africa it has a great style in the middle of new and old world . My advice how ever would be to not by thier cheap export brands like 2 oceans ect spend a little extra and get some good quality Kanonkop, Meerlust or Vergelegen which are still quiet pocket friendly

Currently, the best value, and the most consistent wines come from the new world countries, South Africa, Chile, New Zealand, Australia, Peru. The old countries, Italy, france, Germany have many complex and interesting wines which are a little more unpredictable and pricey, but if you get a good one, more rewarding. The eastern block countries like Bulgaria, Hungary and Romania are fun for cheap wines which are at least ok. Greece makes some unusual stuff, and the UK has some excellent but small volume producers. America has fantastic variation from California. I don't think any one country can lay claim to being the best, as taste is a personal thing.

I would definitely say France or Italy. The United States has produced some very good wines out in California. Australia is growing in popularity becuase they have kept their prices low and quality high. It is more personal preference.

Mediterrenean wines are the best - mainly French and Italian; and between the two I tend to opt for Italian wines. If you want to taste a really good wine, and like sweet ones, try Moscato d'Asti - it's a celebration for your palate
....guess tonight I'm off to a wine bar to get some :D
